SERVICES
Areas of Expertise
Hand Therapy
& Custom Splints
Our board-certified hand therapist has 30 years of experience making splints fit for you and your unique recovery needs.
Pelvic
Health
This is not just for pregnancy! All genders can struggle with pelvic dysfunction and our 3 pelvic health therapists are working with the community to get access to this essential treatment and more education to providers.
Joint Replacement
Care (Pre & Post)
Knee, hip, and shoulder replacements are increasingly common. Research shows patients who participate in pre-surgical rehab have shorter hospital stays and improved strength and mobility after surgery.
Orthopedic Assessment
& Recovery
The best way to treat or prevent pain is to understand it. We take the time to get to the source of the problem and improve not only the symptoms, but the cause.
Fall
Prevention
Don’t wait until after a fall to start PT. Fall prevention teaches not only safety tips, but stretch and strength programs to keep you active and independent.
Neurological
Training
Your brain is complex and so is your nervous system. Radiating pain, numbness, poor coordination, and weakness may all be due to neurological dysfunction. The longer a nerve or brain dysfunction goes untreated, the risk for permanent damage increases.
Vestibular
Rehabilitation
Vertigo is not the same for everyone. Our therapists can help you identify between inner ear and central nervous system sources for dizziness and provide treatment alternatives to medication.
Injury Prevention
Techniques
Are you concerned about an injury that flares up chronically, or are you avoiding activities due to past discomfort? Come in for an assessment and get back to activities you love, pain free.
SERVICES
Work-Related Services
We accept Workman’s Comp for approved conditions. Please contact your employer for additional information on filing a claim.
Ergonomic Assessments
Working from home or out in the field? You spend approximately half of your hours at your work space during a 40 hour week. That is worth assessing to reduce the risk of repetitive stress injuries and postural dysfunction. Learn small changes to personalize your space, and help you assess the potential returns for big changes before spending your money.
Return-to-Work Training
Getting hurt at work adds more challenges to a standard injury. We create work simulation settings for your job description and documenting your progress for a SAFE, progressive return to work. Kona Rehab accepts most workman’s compensation programs, and knows the importance of training for unique requirements. Let us help you get back to work, confidently.
Post-Offer Evaluations
Customized assessments ensure employees can safely meet the demands of their new positions and reduce your company’s liability risk. Each assessment is unique to its job description and assesses proficiency in lifting, positional tolerance, balance, and safe cardiac performance. Be proactive in reducing your company’s risk of worker’s compensation cases and consider reviewing with your liability insurance to see about reducing your WC insurance rates.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
What is the difference between Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy?
We get this one ALL the time. Occupational therapy is used to help or regain patients’ ability to perform day-to-day tasks independently, often emphasizing fine motor skills, and physical therapy is used to improve patients’ ability to participate in gross motor activities and manage pain. At Kona Rehab, our OT is also a board-certified hand therapist, so she treats all of our patients with hand, wrist, and elbow diagnoses. Our pelvic floor therapists, on the other hand, are all PTs.
How long are my appointments?
Most appointments are 45 minutes.
What should I wear?
Choose clothes that will allow your therapist access to your problem area. It’s best to wear clothes that will allow you to move for a full assessment. Therapists can often gain important information from your footwear; if you’re in for treatment of anything below your shoulders, wear the shoes you wear most often.
Do you accept my insurance?
We accept most Hawaii based, and some mainland insurances, including (but not limited to) HMSA, Kaiser, Medicare, UHA, HMAA, HMA, United Health Care, VA, worker’s compensation, and Aetna. We do not accept Ohana, Aloha, and UHC Quest. Our front office will confirm your insurance before you attend your first appointment.
Where are you located?
Kona Rehab is in the three story, beige building mauka of the old Safeway on Henry Street. There is a small, wooden sign at the entrance that reads “Crossroads Professional Center”. Locals also know it as the old HMSA building. The clinic is directly across the front door on the ground floor. View our map
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes! However, it is best to check with your insurance to confirm they will reimburse for remote services.
How do I get started?
Hawaii allows therapists to treat patients directly, but most insurances require a doctor’s referral. If you are using insurance, it’s best to start with a call to your insurance provider for details on their requirements. If you are paying directly, simply give us a call to schedule! Read more…
